Yes, absolutely.
We developed the Ria app together with many grandparents and “silver agers” — all of whom were able to use it with ease. A family member can, of course, help with the initial setup — often children or grandchildren take care of that part. But it also works perfectly on its own: Ria guides users step by step through the setup process, so older adults can easily download and start using the app independently.
Ria offers three subscription plans – simply choose the one that best fits your family’s needs.
All plans include a 7-day free trial period, so you can test Ria in peace before deciding.

How Ria Works
What languages does Ria speak?
Ria understands and speaks German and English best. However, if you prefer, she can also communicate with you in many other languages — just ask, and Ria will adapt.
How long should my stories be?
Your stories can be as long as you like.
The Ria app automatically divides longer recordings into meaningful sections and adds fitting titles. This way, you can easily find your stories again — no matter how much time has passed.
How can I find a specific story again?
Rediscover your stories
In the “Library” section, you’ll find all your memories neatly organized. Each story has a clear title and sorted by life phases – so you always have a clear overview.
And if you’re looking for something specific, simply use the handy search function. Enter a keyword or recording date, and the matching memory will appear instantly.
Whether it’s a single story or an entire chapter of your life – with just a few taps, you’ll quickly find what you’re looking for. Exploring your memories becomes a joy and an inspiration to record even more stories.
Who decides what is put into my Portrait?
That’s entirely up to you.
Based on your conversations, Ria suggests a short profile text, which you can edit or add to at any time. The automatic suggestion is simply there to make things easier – your profile always stays fully under your control.
How does Ria create stories from my memories?
Your words – your story.
Ria listens and transforms your words into stories in two different ways:
The first version keeps your own expressions, your voice, and your natural way of speaking — just as you told it, word for word, with only small fillers like “uhm” removed. For example:
“When I was little — around seven years old — I used to play a lot with Julia — you know, my sister.”
If you prefer, there’s also a second, edited version — written as if an experienced biographer had listened and captured your story for others: elegant, respectful, and personal. In this version, the same example might read:
“In my childhood, I spent a lot of time playing with my sister Julia.”
Can I print my stories or my pictures?
Your memories in a book
Imagine your life stories and photos becoming a personal book – a true treasure you can hold, share, or pass on within your family.
That’s exactly what we’re working on: soon, you’ll be able to turn your stories into a printed book directly from the app – complete with your texts and photos, just as you created them.
This new feature will be available in early 2026, so your memories will not only be preserved digitally but also come to life on paper.
With whom is my Portrait shared?
You decide – without exception.
Only you determine who can see or receive your Portrait. Your data is protected with Ria and is only visible when you explicitly choose to share it.
Sometimes, it can be helpful to share your profile with a hospital or care service – for example, if you need support at short notice. Even in these situations, you remain fully in control at all times.
Do we need a wifi connection to do Video Calls?
Yes.
A Wi-Fi connection is highly recommended – it makes using the Ria app, especially the video call feature, smoother and helps you avoid unexpected costs from high mobile data usage.
Is there anything I should not talk about?
Talk about anything that matters to you
At Ria-Care, there are no limits to what you can share – you’re free to talk about whatever comes to mind. Your stories belong entirely to you – we don’t review, monitor, or read them.
This means you can speak openly and be confident that your memories remain fully protected.
Can I change who can listen to or read my stories over time?
Yes, absolutely.
You can decide who can listen to or read each story – and adjust those settings at any time. Whether you want to share with your whole family, just specific people, or only at a later point – you always stay in full control of how and when your stories are shared.
Who can I have a video-call with?
Stay connected – with video calls in your Ria family network.
You can start video calls with any member of your Ria family network at any time. The built-in video call feature makes staying in touch not only easier but also more personal and heartfelt.
Because family is about closeness – no matter where you are.
How many stories can I record?
Tell as much as you like – Ria is always listening.
With Ria, you can record as many stories as you wish. If you’d like to share more than 24 hours of recordings in a month, Ria will suggest upgrading your plan to the next level – giving you up to 50 hours of speaking time.
And if one month happens to be full of stories, you even have the option to switch to a plan with unlimited recording time.
Of course, nothing changes without your consent. Ria will always ask before upgrading – you remain fully in control.
Who can read my Portrait?
You decide who can see your profile – entirely on your terms.
Within your Ria family network, you have full control over who can view your Portrait. Trust and privacy are our top priorities – which is why you decide which people in your network get access.
And if you wish, you can also share your Portrait beyond the network – easily as a PDF file via email. This way, you stay in control at all times and can share your profile safely and selectively with people outside your network.
How much are the Video Calls?
Stay connected as often as you like – with no extra costs.
Your Ria subscription includes 12 video calls per month, so you can regularly connect with your loved ones – personally, directly, and without any additional fees.
Because closeness should never depend on distance.
Can I choose to share my stories later? I don’t want to release them during my lifetime.
You decide who can see your stories
Your memories belong entirely to you – and you choose who gets to hear them. Whether you want to share them right away, later, or even only after your lifetime – each story can be shared individually.
Sometimes you may want your whole family to listen, sometimes just one special person. In the app, you can easily set these permissions yourself – for all stories or just specific ones.
This way, your stories always stay in your hands and are shared only when you want them to be.
How do I start a Video Call?
Ria takes care of it – you just have to be there.
Ria automatically handles the scheduling of your video calls, taking into account the times your family network members have marked as available.
When it’s time for your next call, Ria sends you a gentle reminder. And as soon as you’re ready, she starts the video call for you – simple and effortless.

What is Ria-Care?
Ria-Care – founded with passion and purpose.
Ria-Care was created by Claudia who launched the company with one clear mission: to make the Ria app a reality for her own family and that of others.
With personal dedication and genuine passion, Claudia and her team continue to develop Ria – always with the goal of bringing families closer together and keeping memories alive.
Why Ria was developed?
Why Ria exists.
Last year, our founder’s father passed away unexpectedly. There was no time left to hear his many stories, memories, and experiences one more time – let alone record or preserve them.
In that painful moment, she realized how many precious stories are lost forever when we don’t intentionally hold onto them. She knew that had to change.
That’s how Ria was born – to keep memories alive, to make it possible for stories to be shared and passed on, and to help families stay connected across generations.
